Do I have to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay cash?

An advance ticket purchase is required for all tours and events. Cash is not accepted. Check availability and buy tickets online. To purchase tickets by phone, please call our ticketing service at 412-693-6166.

Can I get a refund or reschedule my tickets?

Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded. No partial credits or rescheduling is allowed for partial attendance, no shows or late arrivals. It is your responsibility to show up at the designated location listed in your confirmation at least 10 minutes before the tour is scheduled to begin. All tours and events start on time, and run rain or shine.

In the very rare instance a tour or event is canceled by Food Guy Adventures, the amount paid for the ticket(s) will be refunded to the original purchaser in the form of a gift certificate.

Do I need to purchase a ticket if I’m not eating?

Yes. All guests must purchase a ticket whether or not they plan to partake in the tastings. You’re on a food tour after all! Non-paying individuals will not able to join the tour for any reason(s). The ticket fees help cover the costs of all the samplings and also to pay for your highly-educated tour guide(s) wages, whom are offering valuable information and commentary on the tours.

Do you ever cancel tours or events?

Although it is very rare, a tour or event may be canceled if a minimum number of participants have not purchased tickets. If a cancelation occurs, the amount paid for the ticket(s) will be refunded to the original purchaser in the form of a gift certificate and can be applied to a future tour or event.

Can I get on a waiting list if a tour or event is sold out?

We do not officially provide a waiting list. If a date is sold out, there is always a chance that we will add an additional tour or event. Please use the contact form and let us know what date you would like to attend.

Are the tours and events accessible by baby stroller and wheelchair?

Unfortunately, strollers are not permitted and wheelchairs are not recommended. The tours utilize narrow sidewalks, navigate some hills and may traverse staircases. Some of the shops we visit are very small and may be located in older buildings that aren’t entirely ADA compliant – making a wheelchair or stroller difficult to navigate.

Are tour guide gratuities included in the price?

Food Guy Adventures does not include gratuities in the cost of the tours. A standard gratuity for a tour guide is 15% to 20% of the tour price. Tipping your guide is a wonderful way of showing appreciation for their Pittsburgh expertise!

Do you offer discounted tickets for children and seniors?

Currently, we do not offer any discounted tickets for children and seniors.

What if I live in Pittsburgh?

A majority of Food Guy Adventures attendees live in the city of Pittsburgh or in one of the surrounding communities. Locals love to attend our tours and events because they are interested in learning about the city’s distinct neighborhoods through food.

What to Expect

Do you accommodate special dietary restrictions or food allergies?

Except where noted, vegetarians and those who do not drink alcohol can be accommodated. We cannot guarantee substitutions for any other food allergies (such as gluten-free or dairy-free), as our merchant partners may not offer such options.

Substitutions must be requested in advance with your ticket purchase. All tastings are organized and purchased in advance of your arrival at each location based on the information you provided to us at the time of ticket purchase. Last minute dietary changes will not be accommodated.

Do the tours start and end at the same place?

The starting and ending point varies depending on the tour. The starting point is mentioned in your ticket confirmation along with parking recommendations. In most cases, the ending point is within a few blocks of the starting point. Your guide will be happy to assist with directions at the end of the tour.

Is there parking near the meeting point?

Yes. You will receive specific parking recommendations in the confirmation email after your ticket is purchased.

How much food is served on the food tour?

Each tour provides enough food that, for most participants, lunch afterwards is not necessary. With the combination of drink and food tastings along with breaks for historical insight, most guests are comfortably full after our food tours. For tours scheduled in mid-morning and afternoon, a light breakfast is still recommended.

Are there any beverages served on the tour?

Each guest will receive a bottle of water at the start of the tour. Also, some tastings may be a beverage sample. You are welcome to bring additional water or purchase a to-go beverage, if available at a tasting stop.

Can I purchase items during the tour?

Our merchant partners expect groups within a certain window of time and we make sure to stay on schedule. We encourage guests to allow for additional time to explore the neighborhood at the end of the tour. If there is any spare time for shopping during the tour, your guide will inform you at that tasting stop.

Are cameras allowed?

Absolutely! Photography is allowed during the tour. Just make sure the flash is turned off. And don’t forget to share your photos with @foodguyadv on Facebook and Instagram. Video is not allowed on any tour or at any event without prior permission.

Are your tours kid-friendly?

All of our tours are recommended for kids aged 8 years and older. An adult must accompany all guests under the age of 18. There is no “kids ticket” available as all tastings are the same portions for all participants, regardless of age. All guests must be 21 years old or older to participate in tours and events that include alcoholic beverages.

What happens if it rains or snows?

All tours and events are held rain, snow or shine. Make sure the check the weather and dress appropriately for the day’s weather conditions. Bring an umbrella if necessary as most of the walking is outside.

What’s the restroom situation like?

While not offered at every stop, restrooms are available throughout our tours and during events. However, we strongly recommend that you use the facilities before the tour begins.

How much overlap is there across tours and events?

Pittsburgh’s bounty of interesting stories and historical facts are never-ending. Each neighborhood we visit offers its own distinct character and narrative. All tastings are unique to each tour and event, and changes over time. Our guests often return with new friends or family in tow.

Do you offer private group tours?

We welcome private group tours. Please send a message via our contact form to book a private group tour of eight people or more.

Do you offer tours in neighborhoods where a public tour is not currently offered?
